Have you ever watched surfing movies or surfing competitions and wondered what it felt like to catch a wave? Well, while you might not be quite ready to catch the huge winter swells on the North Shore, there are spots on the Island where even beginners can enjoy this exciting Thing to do on Oahu!
Because the size of the surf shifts with the seasons, the best place for each skill level depends on the time of year that you plan your visit. You can ask the Concierge at our Honolulu Hotel for advice about where to surf during your stay.
The North Shore, for example, is going to be off-limits to novice surfers during the winter months. Some of the world’s best surfers come here during the winter to catch the mammoth waves. During the summer, however, some of those same beaches would be safe for beginners.
Below are lists of some of the most popular Oahu surfing spots on both the North Shore and the South Shore of Oahu. Generally speaking, summer in the North Shore is better for beginners while during the winter and spring, the North Shore is best for experienced surfers. During the winter, South Shore beaches are more appropriate for beginners.
