About Hiking Diamond Head Crater:
Hiking is a popular Waikiki Activity, and there are many places to enjoy this Oahu Thing to do. One of the most well-known is Diamond Head Crater. Formed by a volcanic explosion hundreds of thousands of years ago, Diamond Head Crater is featured on postcards and is recognizable even by people who have never visited the area.
Courtyard by Marriott Waikiki Beach is conveniently located near many popular hiking spots. Our Waikiki Hotel is also near top options for Shopping and Dining in Waikiki.
The crater itself is easy to recognize, but the view from the summit of the crater is what visitors never forget. When you reach the top of Diamond Head Crater, you will enjoy sweeping views of Oahu and, during certain times of year, you may even see humpback whales in the distance. The crater summit is also home to bunkers and a 1917 lighthouse.
Enjoying this Waikiki Activity does not involve a very long hike, but it is a bit challenging. The hike to the crater summit is less than one mile, but it is very steep in places. Also, the last portion of the hike involves steep stairs. On average, the hike takes about two hours to complete.
