More about the Waikiki Rough Water Swim:
The Waikiki Roughwater Swim was the inspiration for the swim leg of the Hawaiian Ironman triathlon and the Double Roughwater. It takes participants on a 2.4 mile swim out of the Kapua Channel, starting at Sans Souci Beach (Kaimana Beach), and across the waters of Waikiki. Starts are staggered at 5-minute intervals, beginning at 9 a.m., to reduce crowding at the start. The field of swimmers is divided into groups of approximately 50 to 200 people, based upon entry times.

The fastest swimmers will be in the first group and slower swimmers in the groups that follow, on a first-come, first-served basis. The finish line is 20-30 meters up the beach from the water’s edge, and in order to finish, participants must complete the race in less than 2 hours and 40 minutes.
