HONOLULU, HI (November 18, 2016) — Courtyard by Marriott Waikiki Beach will feature the island inspired artistry of painter Andy Cabrera, at the hotel’s monthly art and wine event on Wednesday, November 23, at 5 p.m. Since spring, the Art & Wine Show at Courtyard by Marriott Waikiki Beach has spotlighted a diverse set of local artists, while also offering custom tasting menus of wines specially selected by Spada Bar & Restaurant.
“The Art & Wine Show has become something we look forward to every month here at Courtyard by Marriott Waikiki Beach and we love hosting different work, often by locally inspired artists, at each event," said Henry Perez, General Manager of the Courtyard by Marriott Waikiki Beach. “It has been impressive to watch the Art & Wine Show become a staple here and we plan on continuing to offer it.”
Cabrera grew up visiting Oahu on an annual basis with his family. From a very young age, he found himself drawn to the islands’ natural beauty and unique culture. Numerous Hawaiian themes emerged in Cabrera’s early paintings and continue to dominate his body of work. Many of his colorfully bold oil paintings feature scenes from nature, including pineapples, sea turtles, birds of paradise and island coastlines. He also uses his distinctive style to depict beach goers and surfers, such as the legendary Duke Kahanamoku. A full-time resident of Hawaii, Cabrera continues to work locally in an attempt to share the magic of the islands with the rest of the world. Learn more at www.andycabrera.com.
"Andy Cabrera has some truly beautiful work which will be on display and the wine selection from Spada Bar & Restaurant is always exquisite,” Perez said.
Spada Bar & Restaurant hand selects wines from various regions each month to feature on a special tasting menu for the art show. November’s selections include a Pinot Noir from the Tapihue region of Chile, a Cabernet from California’s Central Coast, and a flavorful Chardonnay from the vineyards of Sonoma, California.
The Root: 1 Pinot Noir of Casablanca Valley, Chile, is a medium-bodied wine characterized by notes of ripe cherry and silky tannins. The Smith & Hook Cabernet Sauvignon of California’s Central Coast boasts notes of rich plum, blackberry and spices that make for a deep flavor profile with a generous finish. The Alexander Valley
Vineyards Estate Chardonnay will also be featured, with tastes and aromas that hint of fresh pear, vanilla and toasted oak.
Courtyard by Marriott Waikiki Beach was revitalized with a $20 million renovation which came to a completion earlier this year. The hotel’s 403 rooms, including the 99 suites, as well as the building’s exterior, lobby bar and lanais, have been updated to reflect the new, island-chic look of the hotel. The fresh look includes contemporary wood furnishings in dark ebony, atop richly decorative carpeting, suffused in a soft teal and sea-foam color scheme. The upgrades enhance the hotel’s distinct character as an urban oasis in the heart of Waikiki. Courtyard by Marriott Waikiki Beach also offers many amenities, such as a spa, a tropical garden pool, coffee shop, on-site restaurant, a 24-hour business center, concierge services desk and more.
